The Challenge
Electricity use at the plant was visible only as a single total; how much each production line drew was unknown. The operator wanted per-line consumption and the site's solar production followed from one place.
The existing machine panels and switchgear were to stay as they were. The metering hardware was planned to be added onto the existing supply lines inside a working production facility.
The Watt Works Solution
We fitted a three-phase energy meter into the panel on each line's supply. Current measurement cables were run to the outputs of the existing breakers, the measurement leads were gathered on a separate terminal group, and the meters were connected to the network from inside the panel. Lines, co-ex units and the mixer were each named individually.
The data is collected in a single monitoring dashboard. The operator sees live power, daily and monthly consumption per phase, solar production and energy exported to the grid on the same screen, from a phone or a computer.
Engineering Highlights
- Three-phase metering line by line
- Installed into existing panels while production continued
- Live power plus daily and monthly consumption
- Solar production and grid export on the same screen
- Remote monitoring from phone and computer
