The Challenge
Ventilation runs continuously in the bakery's production area: two air handling units and one exhaust line are in operation together. Fan speeds had to be adjustable according to conditions, and any fault had to be visible on site.
Operating each device from its own front panel is not practical in daily use. What was needed was a control setup where mode selection, temperatures and air flow values could be followed from a single point.
The Watt Works Solution
We brought the whole ventilation system together in a single control panel. The panel holds Siemens LOGO! based control with digital, analogue and temperature (RTD) input modules, Schneider Electric relays, a 24 V DC power supply and five variable frequency drives running the fan motors. The protection and switchgear group sits on its own row inside the same panel.
On site, a Kinco touch panel in an IP65 enclosure gives access to the air handling unit, exhaust, fault tracking and settings screens. The operator can switch between manual and automatic mode; the frequency values of both units, indoor and outdoor temperature, the heating setpoint and the extract and supply air flow are read from the same screen.
Engineering Highlights
- Two air handling units and the exhaust line managed from one panel
- Fan speeds set through five variable frequency drives
- Manual/auto mode, temperature and air flow readings on the touch panel
- A separate fault tracking screen
- Siemens LOGO! based control with an IP65 field panel
