EO Villa — migration from legacy automation to KNX
The villa's existing bus-based automation was migrated to KNX; lighting, blind control and app access now run on a single backbone.

The Challenge
The villa was running a closed, bus-based automation system. It was not open to expansion, and maintenance or changes had become increasingly difficult over time. The owner wanted to move to an infrastructure that is more stable and supportable in the long run.
The second condition was that day-to-day use should not change. The wall switch layout had to stay as it was, and no walls were to be opened for a new cabling scheme. The migration therefore had to work largely over the existing installation.
The Watt Works Solution
We removed the old automation modules from the panel and built a new distribution based on Schneider Electric KNX devices. The existing wall switches were wired into binary input modules, so the switch layout stayed the same while the logic behind it moved to KNX. Lighting and blind circuits are driven through KNX actuators.
A touch panel handles light scenes and central control, and the house can also be managed remotely from phone and tablet. Because the panel is built as modules on DIN rail, adding devices later is a matter of extending the rail.
Engineering Highlights
- Migration from a closed bus system to KNX
- Existing wall switches retained via binary inputs
- Lighting and blind control on a single backbone
- Touch panel and mobile remote access
