The Challenge
The building already had a working KNX installation; the issue was not the wiring or the field devices but the user side. In the 26 flats, lighting, climate and intercom were operated from separate interfaces, which made day-to-day use scattered for residents. The brief was to bring control together on a single screen without stripping out equipment that still worked.
The second part concerned the common areas. Entrance door access and lift call could not be handled from inside the flats, and both functions needed to sit in the same interface.
The Watt Works Solution
We left the existing KNX backbone in place and brought in-flat control together on new touch panels. The panel carries KNX visualisation and IP intercom in one interface: lighting, air conditioning and the water heater are monitored and operated from the same screen, and welcome and goodbye scenes run with a single touch. Lift call was also brought onto the panel over KNX.
An IP door station with camera, keypad and card reader was installed at the building entrance; residents see and speak to the visitor on the panel and release the door, with access managed at the entrance. Programming and commissioning were carried out on site in the building's technical room, and every function was tested there. The system can also be used remotely through the mobile app.
